Whitby Musicport Festival is moving to Bridlington in 2008
Having outgrown the current venue (which holds 1000) the move to the 3500 capacity Bridlington Spa (currently undergoing an £18m transformation) will give the festival room to expand in future years and attract even bigger name international artists.
Organiser Jim McLaughlin said “We think this is a really exciting development for the Festival and for Bridlington and we want to make this years event a celebration of the 8 years in Whitby that have helped make it such a big cultural event in the north.”
This year’s festival is rapidly heading towards another sell-out but at the present time there are still tickets available for the whole weekend and all the individual sessions.
New additions to the line/up include The Bollywood Brass Band, Paul Simmonds (of The Men They Couldn’t Hang), Warner Brother artist Edwina Hayes & winner of the Horizon Award at this years Radio 2 Folk Awards Kris Drever.
With acts of the stature of Rachid Taha flying in from Paris & Varttina from Finland flying in from Helsinki just to appear at the 2007 festival plus jazz giant Courtney Pine making a rare foray up North, this year’s festival is all set to provide a memorable farewell to Whitby and provide an excellent way to mark the dawning of a new chapter.

TOWARDS THE LIGHT
A piano recital of pieces from the widely acclaimed classical album.
SATURDAY 15th SEPTEMBER 2007
7.30 pm
BEVERLEY MINSTER
The past months have been a rollercoaster ride for Classic fm’s composer in residence as the tour took him around the country. Venues ranged in audience side, but undoubtedly the reactions from those of you who attended were astoundingly positive. So much so infact that Patrick wished to take the tour to those areas it did not reach. Not only are there now more dates to come but Patrick has been working towards the release of a new Compilation album The Essential Patrick Hawes. This will endeavor to provide those who like his music with a collection to treasure. It will contain previously released and a selection of unreleased pieces, orchestral, piano and choral as well as tracks from his film score for the wonderful film The Incredible Mrs Ritchie.
The Piano Recital will be a chance to hear Patrick’s latest release. Pieces of beautiful simplicity and expression written as Classic Fm composer in Residence. The concert lasts aproximately an hour and includes not only performances of the pieces but interjections by Patrick as he explains the meaning behind his music and the thought process in its creation. Following the concert there will be a chance to meet and talk with Patrick.
