Leading automotive paintwork restorer Richard Hutchins has created the ultimate ‘before and after’ demonstration of his services - by letting one half of his car rot whilst the other side is pampered.
The barmy Yorkshireman even drives it on public roads as it is fully road legal, although his ‘other half’, Carolynne, isn’t so keen. Whilst the driver’s side is almost factory fresh, the passenger side is dirty, suffers from torn trim and is littered with empty crisp packets.
“It’s a total embarrassment for me,” explained Carolynne. “Richard loves to drive it everywhere to show off his talents, but you can only see the passenger side from the pavement. If he collects me from town, passers-by think the whole car is like that and tut in disgust.”
However, from the offside, the car looks almost as good as it did when it left Stuttgart. Richard has:
Completely renovated half the paintwork, turning it from a dusty pink to a shining red and removed dents and other defects.
Comprehensively cleaned and detailed half the exterior.
Repaired, cleaned and renovated half the interior, including seats and trim
“I bought the car for under 200 GBP and it was in a real state, but driveable,” says Richard. “The paint was really faded, so I knew it would come up well. After doing one side, I knew that no-one would believe it was the same car afterwards, so I decided to leave the passenger side how it was.
“It shows what professional paint restoration can do. You don’t always need a respray, and even a good clean can work wonders.”
